PaintCare is hosting a leftover paint recycling drop-off and giveaway event Saturday, Aug 10 at Ida B. Wells School.. Free recycling services for leftover household paint, stain, and varnish and leftover paint in good condition that is dropped off at this event will be made immediately available to the public for free. If you’re not already familiar with PaintCare, it is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, created by paint companies to plan and operate paint stewardship programs. Its goal is to encourage households and businesses to take their unwanted, leftover paint to a PaintCare drop-off site or to participate in a drop-off event. The National Links Trust will host 'Friday on the Green', a free community event, at Rock Creek Park Golf Course on Friday, August 16 from 5-7pm. Please see the attached flyer for event details THIS link will take you to the event registration page. The event will feature free golf instruction and golf-centric games for both kids and adults and we will also have snacks and drinks available for purchase.
Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) is excited to announce that it is gearing up for its annual Back to School event set to take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Fort Totten Metro Station. A flyer with all the details is attached to this email.
Students will receive free school supplies and there will be fun for the whole family (moon bounces, petting zoo, music, freebies, and more!). We encourage you to share this information with neighbors, family, and friends!
Splash pad now open LATER at The Parks Marketplace Plaza!
Summer's heating up, so come cool down at The Parks Marketplace Plaza — the splash pad is now open! During these hot summer months, the splash pad will be operational from 10 am to 8 pm. The splash pad is located across from The Charmery ice cream shop, near nailsaloon, JINYA and Whole Foods Market. Map 7175 12th Street NW. For the use and enjoyment of everyone, please adhere to the following rules:
> Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
> No diving or running into or around the fountain.
> Clothing, swimsuits, swim diapers (for non-toilet trained children) required.
> Do not drink the chlorinated water.
Times: Every day, 10am - 8pm during the summer
Jazz in The Parks presents Elijah Easton with Allyn Johnson, Kris Funn, and Quincy Phillips: August 10
Our next ever-popular Jazz in The Parks on the Great Lawn is Saturday, August 10 with Elijah Easton and Allyn Johnson, Kris Funn, and Quincy Phillips. Bring your neighbors and friends for the city’s favorite laid-back summer evenings – listed by Washingtonian magazine as a great place to bring a date! (We agree.)
FOOD & DRINK: Bring your own picnic, blanket and refreshments, and enjoy popular local food vendors and giveaways. Beverages for sale on the Lawn from Juneberry Garage, the new owners of the Arts Plaza, and Charmery will have delicious ice cream for sale to beat the heat. Enjoy food trucks or stop by the wonderful restaurants around the Marketplace, just a block away up 12th Street NW. Pick up charcuterie (or a pizza!) at Whole Foods, or amazing chicken or noodles from JINYA Ramen Bar.
GET THERE: Walking or biking is recommended. Parking is available at the Marketplace garage at 1275 12th Street NW (near the Whole Foods Market & Starbucks). Garage entrances are on Dahlia Street NW; park and walk one block down to the Great Lawn (follow the pink signs).

DC Department of Parks & Recreation presents the 2024 Senior Games!
Registration for the DC Senior Games is OPEN. The games will take place across several venues from August 22 - September 22, 2024. DC residents, age 50 and over, as of December 31, 2024, are eligible to participate in the Senior Games.Senior Games August 22 - September 22, Registration deadline: September 7, 2024.
DC Senior Games are sanctioned by the NSGA (National Senior Games Association) and athletes who enter the DC Senior Games can qualify for the 2025 National Senior Games in Des Moines, Iowa. Events include: Softball, Pickleball, Tennis, Swimming, Basketball Free Throw and Hot Shot, 3-on-3 Basketball, Track & Field, Bowling, 5K, 10K, Cornhole, and more.
