Hi Brightwood:
I hope everyone had a productive week and is looking forward to an enjoyable weekend. Below are a few neighborhood updates:
Relief Payments for Tenants of 1451 Sheridan Street and 1450 Somerset Place:
Since October 2023 I have been in communication with the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) and made many requests for a meeting with the tenants of 1451 Sheridan Street and 1450 Somerset Place about the $2,000,000 in relief granted to them in a Consent Judgement and Order in 2022.
I am happy to share that on Feb 3 at 11 am an interactive meeting will be held for the tenants of the class involved in the 1451 Sheridan and 1450 Somerset Civil Action against 16th Street Heights Elijah LLC (landlord). The meeting will be hosted by OAG and the Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NSLP). Tenants will be assisted with completing the required documentation needed to receive restitution payments. Spanish and Amharic interpreters will be present. I am very pleased that this meeting will finally take place and that our neighbors will receive the financial relief that is legally owed to them. I thank the Office of the Attorney General and the Neighborhood Legal Services Program for organizing this meeting and for responding to my many emails and phone calls.
6320 Piney Branch Road:
Many neighbors have inquired about the home for sale at 6320 Piney Branch Road located between Tuckerman and Sheridan Streets. Because of its large size and number of bedrooms, some have asked if the home will be a rehab facility or something similar. During the past year, I had many conversations with the developer who has always assured me that 6320 Piney Branch and the property next to it will be sold as single-family homes. Today, I spoke with the realtor and she stated the same. The property was listed today for $1,699,000 and will be open on Sunday, Feb 4 from 1-3 pm. The home is a detached single-family home with ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) in the basement. The main home has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and the ADU has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Please see the listing link for more property details.
The property next to 6320 Piney Branch is still under construction and should be complete within 3 months. It is a single-family home without an ADU and will sell slightly under the listing price of 6320.
Public Trash Can placed at Georgia and Rittenhouse:
It only took a year of phone calls, written requests, and testifying in front of the DC City Council but finally, a public trash can was placed at Georgia and Rittenhouse! To the neighbors who asked me for trash cans on the 6200 block of Georgia Ave, I am sorry that it took a year to get one installed. I started work on this a year ago and requested 3 trash cans be placed on this very trash-filled commercial strip. Unfortunately, only one was placed next to the bus stop and in front of Meleda Cafe on the corner of Georgia and Rittenhouse. I will continue to work on getting another 2 cans installed. Hopefully, it won't take 2 years to accomplish. I thank DPW for installing the one trash can.
